When we seek pleasure outside of God’s design, we are like this old man fooling around with kid’s toys instead of enjoying an adventurous travel to an exotic destination. The only reason we should ever try to deny ourselves a lesser pleasure, is so that we can seek indulgence in a greater pleasure. The more we believe that “In [God's] presence there is fullness of joy; at [his] right hand are pleasures forevermore (Psalm 16:11), the more we will pass over lesser pleasures that inhibit our ability to experience the presence of God, in this life and the next.
