He will render to each one according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury. (Romans 2:6-8)
There is a way to seek after “glory and honor and immortality” without “self-seeking”. In the kingdom of God, where the way up is down, we deny ourselves the lesser pleasures of this world, not seeking our own glory… so that we might find the only supreme all satisfying joy in the glory of God, where there is life forevermore!
Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. (Matthew 10:39)
For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. (Matthew 16:25)
God, give me grace today to live for you, denying myself the lesser pleasures of this world for the supreme pleasures that are at your right hand forevermore! God, I believe that in glorifying you I will be most satisfied, and I am wholly incapable of doing anything that pleases you outside of the help of your Son. Help me God. You are my rescuer, my redeemer, my comforter, and my all satisfying delight.
You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. (Psalm 16:11)
